Forbes magazine believes that startup businesses are going to be the thing that gets our economy back into shape. New businesses create new jobs, which helps the market grow. Entrepreneurs that start their own businesses are helping the economy, but it’s not an easy path to take. There are a few hurdles to get over when you’re starting your own venture.

Do Your Homework

One of the first things you should know before sinking money into anything is whether or not people will pay for your product or service. Engage in some form of market research. Make sure people want what you have, and that your company can provide it efficiently. You should also check out your competition. What are their prices like? Do they have any limitations? How many are there? Market saturation can be a huge issue. If everyone is doing it, nobody can make money with it.

The Law

Once you know that people want what you have, you need to develop some legal protection. You should set up a corporation, an LLC, C corp, or S corp, depending on size. You really should talk to a lawyer, as they will know exactly what to do and how to do it. This will limit your personal liability as the owner, so you won’t lose everything you own if somebody decides to sue your company.

Location, Location, Location

Unless you’re an online-only business you’ll need a location. Sometimes you need prime real estate in the middle of a city, sometimes you need to be in the middle of nowhere. It really depends on your business. Figure out what is affordable and accessible. The last thing you want is a store your clients can’t find, or an e-commerce website on Madison Ave. If you’re housing inventory, it may be prudent to get more space than you think you need, just in case you want to expand.

Employees

Once you have your location, you’ll need employees. They’ll keep things going when you’re not around, but be wary, as the quality of these people will ultimately decide the fate of your operation.

Stuff

No doubt you will need stuff in your office. Computers, chairs, desks, snacks, you name it. Find a source that is reasonably cheap and delivers. Most big office stores can help you out for the recurring stuff, but it might be a good idea to check out your local craigslist for initial things like office chairs and desks

Advertising

A good product doesn’t need marketing, but people won’t know what it is without advertising. Advertising is designed to let people know you’re there, and as the new kid on the block, you need that. Have a grand opening, run an ad in the paper or on the radio, just do something that will make people think about you. Once you get your first customer you can shift to making sales and generating income.

If you have worked as an IT consultant then you, no doubt, love the perks of the job. It pays well, and you get a decent amount of time off. However, you also know about the drawbacks and liabilities associated with the industry. The general liabilities may mature and cost you a ton, which could bankrupt you. There is a way to protect yourself though: IT consulting insurance. It’ll let you keep doing your job without worrying about a lawsuit.

IT consulting insurance protects both you and your clients, so it’s ideal for most consultants. Mistakes happen, and there’s no way to avoid them, no matter how careful you are. This is especially true in a detail oriented industry like IT. A single decimal place can have tremendous significance. IT workers are often held accountable for this tiny mistakes, but insurance can help avoid that.

One arena of common problems is that of viruses and malware. Even if you didn’t do it, you may be held responsible for the introduction of malicious software. It is, after all, your job to prevent it, right? Figuring out and addressing every single threat is impossible; you might as well count grains of sand on a beach. IT insurance can help you out with that.

Most of the time the company hiring you doesn’t know what they’re doing, tech-wise. That’s why they’re hiring you. They often don’t know who to blame, so you’re the easiest scapegoat.

Many large clients will want you to have IT consultant insurance before you start working for them. Some may provide it, but many won’t. It also helps if your client decides that you haven’t fulfilled your part of the bargain and that they won’t pay you. TechInsurance – Liability Insurance can also help out when you have troublesome error and omissions claims.

Just like coaches on sports teams work behind the scenes to improve the capabilities and feats of the players on a team, a business coach is able to increase productivity and morale in the workplace by working with individuals to increase their potential and understanding of the job.

Business coaches are able to increase the inherent value of a business because they are able to bring out the strengths in each individual employee. They can help them cultivate their skills in a way that benefits both the individual and the business. Coaches are also able to help people cushion their weaknesses so they do not have an adverse effect on the business as a whole.

Beyond that, business coaches help people understand the goals and inner workings of the business in which they operate. This improves interest and understanding across the board, which is invaluable to team work and individual productivity alike.

Business coaches are essentially a part of your business’ team. Just like a sports coach, their job hinges on the business’ ability to succeed. A good business coach makes marked improvements that are readily visible around the office and in the numbers. He or she will be able to cultivate the right attitudes and practices that optimize the business in every area from end to end of the office.

Businesses that invest in effective business coaching experience more success than those who do not. It’s a great way to get the most out of your team and move forward with confidence as you approach new goals.
